Impatience can cost you

Don’t you hate it when someone rings the door bell continuously and when you rush out, the person  is already getting ready to “cabut” (leave)? ARRG!! I shouted for him to come back and told him that he had to allow time for old people to respond lah. Instead of giving me a smile or acknowledging what I told him, he stared at me as if I was an alien, or perhaps he thought this old aunty was talking too much and was wasting more of his time? His stare told me to hurry up and sign the receipt. I felt like being naughty. LOL!Know what I did? As I was taking my own sweet time signing the receipt, I gave him some advice. I told him that old people's hand shakes a lot so cannot be fast and I also have to take time to think what my identity card number is. So he has got to be patient. I could see his face by then, it was soooo looong that it could have almost touched the ground. He had no choice but to keep silent and wait patiently. I guess he wished he had not hurried me in the first place. Hopefully, this guy learned not be so impatient and realised he did not save anytime by being so. On the contrary, he had wasted more time setting off this long winded, slow moving Aunty Lucy. LOL!

Let me make a confession. I used to be a very impatient person myself but as I grow older and wiser, I have improved because I learned that impatience can cost me.

In the past, I often tried to engage in more activities in the allotted time than I could handle. By the same token, I did not allocate enough time for the things that needed to be done. I did not like to wait for things to materialize so I failed to spend adequate preparations to have a satisfactory result. I got upset easily if things did not happen soon enough. When I got impatient, usually, I appeared curt, abrupt, hasty, and presumptuous when I spoke. Due to my impatience, it appeared to others that I was impolite and not a nice person to be around. Not a good way to win friends.
So, to be patient is definitely a better choice in life. Due to my being patient that day wondering how to use up the "hitam masak" paste given to me by my good friend, Arthur of Still Crazy All These Years when I went to Sibu few months ago, I took time  to carefully look through what ingredients I had on hand and came up with a delicious fusion dish for lunch. This resulting dish satisfied both Asian and Western paletes so Quay Lo and I were happy. With a little more patience, I managed to take some nice photos of the dish to share with you. Being patient does draw positive energy and emit the same, agree?

  1. You are absolutely right, Quay Po. Impatience gives us stress, make us angry and unhappy and this negative energy rubs on to other people, creating more negative energy. You were very cheeky to lecture that guy, he deserved it! Your saffron risotto with the sausages and prawns look absolutely scrumptious (I'm eyeing the sausages). Its only 11:15 am and thanks to you I am suddenly so hungry.

  14. Lol! That's exactly what I would have done. But honestly, I believe it's an age thing. I used to be such an impatient brat (my hubby says the "brat" part, I still am, huh) but now am so much more tolerant of things happening around me... Not worth the stress, unless it's a life and death situation.
A wonderful fusion dish, Lucy. And I've always thought those things were called chorizos!

  25. Hi Quay Po, I loved serving all the food in 1 plate [sort of 1 Dish Meal]. Get to see all and the quantity that goes into our tummy. Less cleaning and washing to do too. Yours gave me the idea that I can add seafood with meat next time. Last Sunday, I cooked the same vege with pan fried Hoisin sauce meat fillet served with rice. Was too hungry to take the photos, so won't be posting the recipe.

  30. You are giving an lesson for him and us! I definitely need to remember to slow down sometimes. Well I need to tell my husband so! He tends to do everything so fast and he's capable of doing it. But when he explain things, he does it so fast that I can't comprehend.... so frustrating! Anyway..what a fabulous meal! I love your saffron risotto and the shrimp here.

    1. People who are quick and efficient like your hubby need to be reminded to slow down now and then. They think so quickly and expect others to think the same. It just does not work like that:D

  31. well, those courier guys or delivery men must make sure they clear their deliveries and meet all the pick up requests on the same day, otherwise they will be questioned, that's why they are always in the rush and impatient especially the younger chaps. However, many have forgotten that they are also the so called front liners to the customers, an image maker of the company and also themselves. I must admit too that i was a very impatient person when i was much younger..getting much better now but hv to tell you that i still get impatient when have to wait very long with a hungry stomach! Your hitam masak prawns look delicious...hmmm..at the same time i think you must be missing our local food here very much! so did you bring your 'daddy' mee along?

I forgot to bring my Daddy curry mee. Luckily I found some really nice spicy instant me here. Eating them to stop my craving. Kesian me or not? Sob sob

  32. That's not only patience, that is genius! You are just a natural. Can come up with a dish like that.

You know my mum experienced the same thing like you. She said the courier guy rang and rang while she was bathing and she thought what happened. She couldn't even dry herself properly and have to quickly put on her clothes. Even though they have to clear their deliveries, they should practise patience a bit lar. hehe.

  36. Yes, I do agree. It seems that the ways things go now a days, youth seems to want everything right now. I have always taken my time to make sure I do things right, so I don't have to do things twice. Years ago when I worked in an electronics plant I worked in a clean lab tearing down airplane parts and replacing what ever parts are bad then building them back up and doing all the finishing work before we had them inspected. Some of the work was for commercial airlines and some were government, who had their own inspectors. Well when I got my review from the foreman she said my work was a little slow...so I asked her how much rework I got back from the inspectors...she had to agree that it was quicker and better to do it right the first time. I think back to that often when I need to rush!

Now on to the food, it looks amazing and would like some right now! Can I get it in a hurry? :D
